In the wake of the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake that devastated Nepal, the Coalition for Earthquake in Nepal was created as a partnership of primarily North American Jewish organizations that seek to assist victims of natural or man-made disasters outside of North America on a non-sectarian basis. In doing so, member organizations of the coalition were able to provide desperately needed relief to the region.
Since opening a mailbox in 2015, the Coalition has raised $415,746. Coalition funds have been used to support the following organizations: Chabad, Tevel B’Tzedek, World Jewish Relief, Boudha Bahunipati Project-Pariwar, World Jewish Relief, Society for International Development, Israel Trauma Coalition, IsraAID, Israeli fund for UNICEF, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, American Jewish World Service and Himalayan Climate Initiative. Through these hardworking partners, the Coalition has helped to provide basic needs—such as shelter, food, education, and income—to the people of Nepal as well as supported rebuilding efforts.
